A popular spot for golden agers and gay and lesbians, Palm Springs is situated between Los Angeles and San Diego. Palm Springs was discovered in 1896 as the Agua Caliente Reservation. The Agua Caliente Reservation was created by the United States Government. The desert land was partially given to the railroad industry to develop railroad routes. Agua Caliente currently has a 32,000 acre reservation for the Agua Caliente tribal band, consisting of 400 people in the tribe.
In the beginning, Spanish explorers were attracted to the area. Later, the person who first settled in Palm Springs and was a white man was Jack Summers. Summers owned a stagecoach station in 1862.
Hollywood stars began to come into Palm Springs in the beginning of the 1920s, because of the seclusion, privacy, and hot, sunny weather. Some Hollywood celebrities of the fifties and sixties built their vacation homes in Palm Springs.
If you want to relax and have a good time, Palm Springs is the place for you. If you are a beginning to an avid golfer, you can play golf in one of the city’s 125 area golf courses. Or, you can go mountain climbing on one of the area’s mountains. Just be sure that you are in shape, because there are poisonous rattlesnakes in the area that you could be hiking. However, hiking trails are available. Another option to do is horseback riding. Horseback riding takes your back to the Wild West and is fun for children of all ages. Palm Springs’s temperature is from the middle seventies to low eighties. So you might want to wear a t-shirt, jeans, light blouse, shorts, sunglasses, and a cap.
When you get to the airport, you can rent a car to travel around Palm Springs. You must be 25 years or older to rent a car from rental companies. Be sure that you have your passport and visa (if you are out of country) and driver’s license on hand.
